It’s a Brand New Year – What are you going to do with it?

Happy New Year Everyone!!

It is 2018!!  2017 is in the past!  I do not know what kind of year you had or what you accomplished but it is over and time to move on to 2018!

What are your plans for the new year?  Wouldn’t it be amazing if everyone resolved to be a better person than they were last year?  Can you even imagine how much better our world would be if we all did this?  If we could all resolve to agree to disagree instead of constant arguing?  That might go right up there with world peace, but I am still going to hope.

Do you make New Year’s Resolutions?  Do you keep them?  I make resolutions every year.  This year I have made four.  I am one of those people that makes a resolution to get healthy and lose weight every year.  And yes, this year is no different.  I also have resolved to do more random acts of kindness, to be more positive, and yes – try to be a better person this year than I was last year.

My weight loss resolution is to lose 25 pounds, eat less processed carbs, and in general – be more healthy.  I think that the weight loss and limiting processed carbs go hand in hand with getting healthy.  I do not know why I eat so much processed food to begin with.  Two years ago I cut back on processed carbs and I felt much healthier.  So why I would go right back to it after not eating them for almost a year is beyond my comprehension.  I gave myself a break around Thanksgiving 2016 and never quite got back on track.  I guess for me, once I lose focus – I lose focus.  I just can’t get back to it.  Well that stops now! I’m not going to lie and tell you I will completely eliminate processed carbs because I won’t.  I admit I do not have that kind of willpower!   We are five days into 2018 and I have lost 2 pounds.  I haven’t started my workouts yet, so this is just from limiting my processed carbs.  Yeah me!!  The first couple pounds will be easy.  It will be the last 20 that get me.  But I am focused again, so I have faith I can do it.  I have vowed that I will reach my Fitbit daily steps and I have found what looks to be a great arm workout that promises summer worthy arms in three months.  So we will see what happens once I’m eating healthier and working out!

The resolution about being more positive is not new for me either.  I have made this my New Year’s Resolution many times.  I always try to see the good things in all situations.  To say that I do not always succeed is an understatement.  I sometimes let the negativity permeate my whole being.  I find that does me no good.  I need to let all the negativity go and keep focused on the positive, even when it seems as though the negative outweighs the positive.  This will not only help me but all those around me.  Think about it, what does focusing on the negative get you?  A bad attitude!  And a bad attitude is more contagious than the flu at an elementary school!  Who needs or wants that?!  It won’t always be easy, but I will try to maintain the positive outlook more times than succumbing to the negative.  I will consider that a win.

Now about the random acts of kindness.  My husband and I periodically do things for strangers we see.  We never really talk about what we do and we never post it on social media.  We do what we do because we want to share with others.  We do things to help people we see that might need a helping hand or people who pull at our heartstrings for one reason or another.  I just hope that this year we can do more than we did last year.  I will be keeping track but only because I want to make sure next year we do even more.  We are very blessed in our lives and we want to give back, even if it is just a small gesture here and there.

And last but certainly not least – my resolution to be a better person than I was last year…I hope that my resolution to be more positive helps me work toward this objective.   Other than that, I guess I don’t really know how I will accomplish this goal, but I will be working on it throughout the year and I just hope when I get to the end of 2018 I can say that I believe I am a better person than I was in 2017.

I hope that you all have a Happy  and Blessed New Year and whatever your resolutions are, I hope you see success.  I also hope that you all try to be a better and kinder than you were last year.

It’s just me and my opinion!

Have a great day and God Bless!
